The Kinston Teens Service Council is a group of young leaders that organize and implement service projects and activities for young people in the Kinston and Lenoir County community. Either living or attending school in Lenoir County, these young people are responsible for serving as leaders of the Kinston Teens membership and ensuring that our organization lives up to its mission of being youth-led, youth-centered, and committed to improving our community.
Applications are now open for the 2018-2019 Kinston Teens Service Council, formerly called the Kinston Teens Youth Leadership Council. Applicants do not have to be a current member of Kinston Teens to apply.
Application Deadline is Friday, June 29 at 11:59PM EST
- Identify problems, needs, and issues in the Kinston and Lenoir County community and develop service projects to address them.
- Organize and attend monthly Kinston Teens Member Nights on the second Thursday of every month.
- Participate in all other Kinston Teens programs and events.
- Represent the Kinston Teens organization proudly and respectfully in school, online, and in the community.
- Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 20 years old, and must live in or attend school in Kinston or Lenoir County.
- Applicants must complete the application in full and answer every question honestly and thoroughly.
- Applicants must be available for an in-person interview during the first week in July.
Applicants must apply for one of the seven Service Council positions.
Serves as leader of the membership of Kinston Teens; responsible for leading Kinston Teens Member Nights and meetings of the Kinston Teens Service Council; must communicate with the Kinston Teens staff, news media, and members of the community about projects led by the Kinston Teens Service Council.
Assist the President with his or her duties, and lead in the absence of the President; serves as a leader of the membership of Kinston Teens; also a spokesperson for the Service Council and membership of Kinston Teens
Responsible for taking minutes at member meetings, and meetings of the Service Council; ensuring that meeting minutes are filed and organized; keeping accurate records of member attendance at projects and events
Responsible for leading fundraisers for the membership of Kinston Teens to support events, trips, and service projects; must keep an accurate account of funds raised by members.
Responsible for keeping order in meetings of the membership and Service Council; also responsible for ensuring that the spirit and energy of everyone is kept high; ensures that all actions of the members and the Service Council meet the organization’s code of conduct; responsible for leading icebreakers and energizers at organization meetings and events.
Ensures all members are updated with meeting dates and events; posts updates from the Kinston Teens members in our Facebook group, and on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages; responsible for sending out a monthly Member Update to all of the members.
Plans community service and volunteer projects for the members; finds volunteer opportunities in the community for our members; ensures that the members completes at least two (2) service projects per month
This is a volunteer position. However, the experiences gained and opportunities provided through serving as a leader on the Kinston Teens Service Council are out of this world! This is an incredible chance to develop leadership skills, professional and community experience, and change lives in our community. Members of the Kinston Teens Service Council will receive a stipend at the end of their service in July 2019. Kinston Teens will cover major expenses such as transportation, travel and food where appropriate.

If you are under 18 years of age, by completing this application you acknowledge that you have permission from your parent or legal guardian to join the Kinston Teens organization.
Members of Kinston Teens are expected to be model youth, and represent the young people of our community on many levels. By completing this application, you agree to attend all meetings and events, and to uphold all standards of eligibility, conduct, and responsibilities associated with the Kinston Teens organization.
Once accepted as a member of the Kinston Teens Service Council, you and a parent/guardian will be required to sign a membership pledge, release of liability, and media release.
