The Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is the heart of Kinston Teens’ membership program. Made up of passionate high school-aged youth, the YLC serves as the official leadership body of our member—helping shape programs, guide advocacy efforts, and represent youth voices in our community. YLC members are elected by their peers to serve nine-month terms, during which they plan service projects, lead meetings and events, and work alongside staff and community partners to strengthen youth engagement across Kinston. Officers hold roles such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Communications, and Service Director—each playing a key part in ensuring that Kinston Teens’ mission of youth empowerment and community revitalization thrives.
Through the YLC, members gain hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork, and civic engagement—building confidence, professional skills, and lifelong connections. While positions are volunteer-based, all major expenses (such as travel and meals for official activities) are covered, and the growth opportunities are truly priceless. If you’re ready to make a difference, represent your peers, and help shape the future of our community, the Youth Leadership Council is where your leadership journey begins.

General Volunteers
Community members who don’t meet the age requirements to be a Youth Member of Kinston Teens can still volunteer! We welcome folks of all ages to volunteer with us, especially at our large events or crisis response projects. Because of the nature of our organization, adult volunteers may be subject to additional screening (e.g. background check) prior to joining us. Sign up using the form below and indicate whether you’d like to volunteer on a regular basis, or just for a one-time event!
Court-Ordered & Attorney-Recommended Community Service
Kinston Teens is proud to provide opportunities for individuals needing to complete court-ordered or attorney-recommended community service hours. We believe service can be an opportunity to give back, build responsibility, and positively impact both the community and personal growth. Volunteer opportunities are available on a case-by-case basis based on organizational needs, scheduling capacity, age, and eligibility requirements. We prioritize opportunities for young people and young adults, while also offering select opportunities for adults.
Examples of volunteer activities may include:
